Courtney & Evan’s Dreamy Engagement Shoot at Black Balsam Knob

I got to shoot Super8 alongside lead photographer, Julia Madden Sears, on a chilly fall day at Black Balsam Knob. We met these two at the bottom of the trail, and slowly hiked out way up as the sun set.

The trail to the top is only about a mile long, and leads you to the most stunning, unobstructed views of the surrounding mountain ranges. Every evening around sunset, you’ll start to see hikers gather at the top to watch the sun dip below the mountain line. The 360 degree view painted in golden light is absolutely stunning.

Julia and I felt like this shoot would be perfect to capture digitally and on a super8 camcorder. I love shooting film and super8 because to me, it captures the raw essence of the moment. It is not over edited, slightly messy, and dripping with nostalgia – it’s timeless.
